As the inaugural entry to the new Think Huge blog, I thought it would be best to start with what exactly “Think Huge” means.
The concept originates from a quote in a Fast Company article about Crocs I read a few years ago. The article noted how Crocs started small yet as they were growing a friend told them to “Think Huge.” That quote hit me—hard. I reflected on what “think huge” really meant.
As I delved deeper into living a “think huge” life I realized there were six points to thinking huge:
· Think vision—You can’t think huge unless you know exactly where you want to go.
· Think people—Thinking huge will get you absolutely nowhere unless you involve people in your life.
· Think passion—You need to love whatever you are doing in life.
· Think time—Truly thinking huge means we are investing our time in the right way.
· Think perseverance—Thinking huge is not a “name it and claim it” gospel. You will encounter trials in your life and thinking huge means overcoming those obstacles.
· Think learning—You will only grow as much you are learning.
Eventually I developed a speech about “Think Huge” that I deliver to audiences all across the country. It is different than most of my other speeches about marketing, branding and strategy because “Think Huge” is more about how you elevate your life and your business.
I couldn’t stop with just a speech, though! There was so much more material I wanted to convey than a 60 minute keynote could offer. So along with a fellow speaker/colleague I wrote Think Huge: How To Elevate Your Life and Your Business.
So what exactly does it mean to think huge? Let’s start with what it doesn’t mean. It is not a “health and wealth” manual. We don’t offer a miracle cure to the perfect life for anyone who thinks huge. We do, however, guarantee a far richer life for people who think huge. It won’t always be easy. But, in the wise words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail.”
My definition for thinking huge is, “going many steps beyond where you are today and pushing past your comfort zone.” In other words, not limiting yourself. We sometimes put an invisible ceiling on what we can accomplish in life. Thinking huge means removing those barriers and accomplishing our dreams and ambitions. Maybe you want to be the teacher of the year. Or the top salesperson. Or the CEO. Or a more involved parent. Or a more loving spouse. Or ____________________. You fill in the blank with what areas you want to think huge.
As you come back to this blog on a regular basis, I’ll continue to post, stories, interviews, videos and other relevant information about what it means to “Think Huge.”
Think Huge!
